Their standing ovations were truly deserved but I would also like to think the ovations were also showing gratitude to the Annual Canary Islands Festival Of International Classical Music, that this year, as in the 38 that preceded it, offered us musical excellence, entertainment, education and energy.

MORE FOLK ´N GOOD MUSIC

Back in my days on the folk circuit some forty years ago there was a vast no-man´s land and some intense suspicion between traditions and contemporary folk music, much as there once was (still is?) in Jazz. UK Folk has found an arbitrator and revivalist in the English Folk Expo organisation and Jazz fans can settle their differences over Steve Bewick´s weekly eclectic mix cloud jazz presentation of Hot Biscuits.

It was when the two ensembles combined for the final third of the programme .that we offered the fantastic Libertango by Astor Piazzolla and two works by Fran Yanez with the eponymous and very popular Consonancias. The closing number, also by Yanes, was called Vivo and lived up to its title in a lively fashion..

´It should be noted that Larry Yaskiel is the first English journalist to receive the British Empire medal in Spain and has been very grateful to be distinguished in this way by the British Royal House, explaining that they evaluate the work of a person in the community in which they live. Larry has been very proud of this recognition and commented with enthusiasm that he will continue working so that the British always feel at home in Lanzarote.
