ECLECTIC AWARDS PROMOTING LANZAROTE´S TOURISM

Le Voz recently reported that The Municipal Government of Arrecife will present the Arrecife 2024 Tourism Awards this month during the World Tourism Day gala.

There will be a presentation to musician Tonin Corujo, athlete Jose Carlos Hernandez and commercial operations such as Arrecife Gran Hotel, Arrecife Tourism, and special event delivered by Lanzarote Classical orchestra.

The Tourism Board, chaired by Councillor Eli Merino, responsible for the Areas of Tourism, Commerce and Sports, has deliberated and approved the awarding of the Arrecife 2024 Tourism Awards to the musician Toñín Corujo, the Olympian and athlete from Lanzarote José Carlos Hernández, and the companies Sam Parfums, and the Arrecife Gran Hotel, a five-star tourist establishment, which has become the benchmark for high-quality tourism in the capital of Lanzarote.

The awards, which recognise the careers and contributions of these personalities and entities to the development of Arrecife and Lanzarote, in their different categories, aim to highlight these contributions. The meeting of the Tourism Board, which was attended by representatives of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, the Lanzarote Tourism Business Federation, executives of tourism companies established in Arrecife, and trade organisations, among others, took place this week in the halls of the Agustín de la Hoz House of Culture, in Arrecife.

In the category of business/professional career, the award went to the company Sam Parfums, created in 1969 by the late entrepreneur Sham Dayaram Idnani, founder of Sam Parfums, taking the first steps as one of the pioneers of the bazaar sector in the capital of Lanzarote. Sham’s sons and daughters continue to manage the fine legacy they received from their father.

Tonín Corujo , a distinguished timple player, has been awarded in the cultural and artistic category. Corujo, a member of a distinguished family of folklore and musical tradition lovers, is the driving force behind creating a great talent with his musical school, and innovating with several of his shows where he has the sound of the timple from Lanzarote present.

The athlete from Arrecife, José Carlos Hernández, who participated in the London 2012 Olympics and is a marathon specialist, will receive the award in the category of sports career. As is well known, José Carlos Hernández is linked to Arrecife’s sporting events as the driving force behind the Disco Night Urban Race.

The Arrecife 2024 Tourism Award has been awarded to the five-star hotel establishment and emblem of quality tourism, Arrecife Gran Hotel. The venue is an icon of tourism in Lanzarote that underwent a transformation of its interior design in recent years, following the declaration of the pandemic, and its commitment to the city as a tourist destination throughout the year.

Finally, in the events category, the award, in the opinion of the members of the Arrecife Tourism Board, has been for the ‘Concierto en Vela’, a great cultural, artistic and tourist initiative promoted by the Lanzarote Classical Orchestra, with the sponsorship of the Arrecife City Council through the Department of Tourism and Commerce, directed by Eli Merino.

The Mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, and the Councillor for Tourism, Eli Merino, welcome these awards which recognise professionals and companies that are already part of the sporting, cultural, business and tourism history of the city, which this year commemorates the 225th anniversary of the founding of the municipality.

The Tourism Department team is already working on organising the gala for the presentation of these important awards. The event will take place in the last week of September, coinciding with the commemoration of World Tourism Day.
