| Un-Convention + Manchester Folk Festival 2023 Wristband The 15th Anniversary Un-Convention music conference will take place in Manchester this October. The event will span two days (from 9.15am until 5pm each day), with panels being held on Friday 20th October at Band on the Wall, Swan St, and on Saturday 21st October at the Methodist Central Hall on Oldham St. Un-Convention will once again be bringing together hundreds of artists, managers, labels, promoters, and festivals from over 50 towns and cities across the UK to explore the current state of the sector, build networks, and to develop ideas and actions for a more sustainable, diverse, and equitable music industry. Un-Convention and Manchester Folk Festival have come together for the first time to offer a combined ticket. This means you can attend both Un-Convention Manchester and Manchester Folk Festival for just £100 – a £25 saving on buying separate tickets. Make a jam-packed long weekend of it (Thurs – Sat) by soaking up all of the knowledge that Un-Convention has to offer during the day (Fri 20th & Sat 21st Oct) and then relax at some fantastic folk, roots and acoustic music gigs in the evening (Thurs 19th – Sat 21st Oct.) Manchester Folk Festival runs alongside English Folk Expo, which means you will watch the evening gigs alongside 150+ music industry representatives from across the world, including booking agents, festival programmers, promoters, labels and more – offering fantastic networking potential! Artists are invited by EFE to join EFEx by contacting them to request a detailed schedule as well as a showcasing artists’ page – with artists images, biographies, links and contact details – and a delegate page with delegate images, biographies and contact details. The delegates use these pages many times across the week as they navigate between showcases and network with fellow delegates. You could advertise on either of these pages with a square ad which sits between delegate/artist information and is seen as the app is scrolled. This is precious cargo as they make their way through the weekend and the goodie bag contents travel to festival and venue programmers’ desks across the world. Meanwhile EFE have announced the first wave of artists performing at English Folk Expo and Manchester Folk Festival. They are… Oysterband – formed in 1978 as the Oyster Ceilidh Band, they are folk, sometimes rocking, stalwarts of the folk scene in the UK and far beyond, with thirteen studio albums and five BBC Folk Awards to their name . Noble Jacks – Nominated Live Act Of The Year 2023 by the Americana Music Association UK, the duo Noble Jacks provide a fiddle-driven thrill ride and joyfully hectic live shows. Maddy Prior & The Forgotten Lands – brings together the Steeleye Span front-woman with a gathering of trained and experienced vocal specialists to showcase what the human voice can do and encourage you to sing too. Hack-Poets Guild – Marry Waterson, Lisa Knapp and Nathaniel Mann lead a five-piece band bringing broadsides vividly to life for a new generation and offering a rare insight into Britain’s history. John Smith – Known for his intimate songwriting, his honey-on-gravel voice and pioneering guitar playing, John has spent the last fifteen years touring internationally. Will Pound & Jenn Butterworth – Two of the finest instrumentalists in traditional music combine to bring a tour de force of breathtaking performances, playing a game of ‘musical cat and mouse’; improvising and responding to each other. Merry Hell – Multi-award winning Merry Hell offer joyful, uplifting folk-rock, with a message for troubled times. Native to the North-West of England, they are currently holders of Folking.com’s Best Live Band Award. Simeon Hammond Dallas – Simeon fuses country, blues, and soul music to create her own blend of Americana, whilst keeping true to her London roots. . Blackbeard’s Tea Party – Sea-shanties are given a bombastic rock edge, and folk instrumentals become late-night floor-fillers when this raucous bunch of reprobates hit the stage. Suntou Susso – Susso is a Gambia-raised Kora player, percussionist, singer and composer who has performed with Youssou N’Dour at the O2 arena and played festivals including WOMAD and Hay Festival. Granny’s Attic – With exceptional musicianship and boundless energy, the Granny’s Attic trio have been heralded for their lively performances and skilled delivery of traditional material that pushes at the boundaries of the genre. Ranagri – have forged a new and contemporary sound on the folk scene, mixing harp, flutes, guitars, dulcimer, percussion and with lead vocals and harmonies. Bonfire Radicals – The electrifying sound of Birmingham’s female-fronted, fiery, (un)traditional folk band Bonfire Radicals is both intensely creative and irresistibly fun |
