{"id":6604,"date":"2021-09-08T08:29:44","date_gmt":"2021-09-08T07:29:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aata.dev\/?p=6604"},"modified":"2021-09-08T08:33:54","modified_gmt":"2021-09-08T07:33:54","slug":"dylan-facing-days-in-the-dock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aata.dev\/index.php\/2021\/09\/08\/dylan-facing-days-in-the-dock\/","title":{"rendered":"DYLAN FACING DAYS IN THE DOCK?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>DYLAN FACING DAYS IN THE DOCK?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>asks Norman Warwick<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/photo-1-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6605\" width=\"362\" height=\"268\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>A new lawsuit alleges that&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/music\/bobdylan\">Bob Dylan<\/a>, <strong><em>(left)<\/em><\/strong> the Nobel-winning folk singer-songwriter, plied a 12-year-old girl with drugs and alcohol before sexually abusing her in 1965.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lawsuit alleges that the Times They Are A-Changin\u2019 singer \u201cbefriended and established an emotional connection with the plaintiff\u201d, identified in Manhattan supreme court papers, obtained by the Guardian, only as \u201cJC\u201d and groomed her over the course of six weeks in April and May 1965.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The suit, filed late Friday on behalf of JC, now a 68-year-old woman living in Greenwich, Connecticut, alleges that Dylan, then 23 or 24 years old, \u201cexploited his status as a musician by grooming JC to gain her trust and to obtain control over her as part of his plan to sexually molest and abuse\u201d her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the complaint, Dylan established a \u201cconnection\u201d with JC to \u201clower her inhibitions with the object of sexually abusing her, which he did, coupled with the provision of drugs, alcohol and threats of physical violence, leaving her emotionally scarred and psychologically damaged to this day\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The suit alleges that Dylan, given name Robert Allen Zimmerman, abused the plaintiff multiple times, with some incidents taking place at the famed Chelsea hotel in Manhattan. According to the complaint, the emotional effects of the abuse on JC included depression, humiliation and anxiety that \u201care of a permanent and lasting natures and have incapacitated plaintiff from attending her regular activities\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>JC is seeking unspecified damages and a jury trial for allegations of assault, battery, false imprisonment and infliction of emotional distress whose aftermath has led her to seek medical treatment on multiple occasions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A spokesman for Dylan, now 80, told the Guardian recently that \u201cthe 56-year-old claim is untrue and will be vigorously defended\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lawsuit comes on the final day of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.news10.com\/news\/ny-capitol-news\/child-victims-act-look-back-window-to-close-next-month\/\">New York State\u2019s Child Victim Act look-back window<\/a>, which closed Saturday, 14 August. The measure had offered reprieve for adults time-barred from filing civil suits for abuse suffered as children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just last month, a Manhattan supreme court judge&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/music\/2021\/jul\/30\/bob-dylan-lawsuit-sale-songs-jacques-levy\">ruled<\/a>&nbsp;in Dylan\u2019s favor in an unrelated lawsuit over profits from the $300m&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/12\/07\/arts\/music\/bob-dylan-universal-music.html\">sale of his song catalogue last year<\/a>&nbsp;to Universal Music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Paste on-line magazine also broke the news, and in so doing described Bob Dylan as \u00b4no less a towering musical figure\u00b4 now being accused of sexual misconduct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/photo-2-5.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6606\" width=\"319\" height=\"477\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Representatives for Dylan denied the allegations in a statement issued to multiple outlets: \u201cThe 56-year-old claim is untrue and will be vigorously defended.\u201d They had no further comment when reached by&nbsp;<em>Paste<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>J.C.\u2019s suit was filed under the New York Child Victims Act\u2014an act that enables victims to file claims regardless of how long ago the alleged abuse occurred\u2014on the penultimate day of the act\u2019s look-back window, which closed Aug. 14.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Paste reporter did point out that, complicating matters, some have&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/venetianblonde\/status\/1427386653941936128?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">observed<\/a>&nbsp;that Dylan\u2019s whereabouts were consistently well-documented during the period in question, as the then-24-year-old musician was touring the U.S. and U.K. at the time.\u00b4<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There will, nevertheless, be clouds of smoke and mirrors and much behind the hand mischief-making until the case either comes to court or is dismissed before-hand.
