The event was the premiere of the <strong>Yaiza Naturaleza Sonora<\/strong> project, a series of concerts of different musical genres organized by the City Council presided over by <strong>\u00d3scar Noda<\/strong> and <strong>the creative collective, Rofe<\/strong>, which plans a calendar of five more shows between now and December, all free in open public spaces in the south of Lanzarote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Music lovers residing in different parts of the Island and artists such as the narrator <strong>Cristina Temprano<\/strong> or the photographer <strong>Rub\u00e9n Acosta<\/strong> discovered the Uga picnic park as a free place to welcome music, in the form of the notes and improvisation of Cristopher P\u00e9rez and Eloy Ma\u00f1ogil, as their jazz fusion into an amalgam of interpretation, loudly applauded by an audience that recognized the musical quality of the two virtuoso guests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Organisers said afterwards that they were <em>very pleased with the jazz program at ExperienCE, with the number of attendees who enjoyed the concert, and with the very positive impression left by the premiere of Yaiza<\/em> <em>Naturaleza Sonora.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u00a8Some of the audience members have already agreed to meet at the next show, which will take place on August 23rd at the La Degollada picnic area,&#8221;<\/em> confirmed <strong>C\u00e9sar Rijo<\/strong>, the <strong>Councilor for Culture of Yaiza.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For his part, <strong>Ubai Alem\u00e1n<\/strong>, head of the production company <strong>Rofe<\/strong>, maintains that <em>&#8220;seeing so many people gathered in our town, <strong>Uga<\/strong>, to celebrate music with respect and active listening was very moving. This project was born from a deep desire to care for the land through art, and I can&#8217;t think of a better way to start.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Yaiza Naturaleza Sonora<\/strong> will continue its tour of all the towns in the municipality with free, small-format concerts, held on the <strong>second-to-last Saturday of each month until December, always at 7:30 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next event will be on<strong> Saturday, August 23<\/strong>, at the <strong>La Degollada picnic area<\/strong>, featuring a solo concert by <strong>Lajalada,<\/strong> an artist who will take us on <strong>an intimate journey through folk, pop, and electronic music<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Yaiza Naturaleza Sonora<\/strong> is a monthly invitation to pause, listen, and reconnect, through music, with our environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sidetracks And Detours<\/strong> reviewed a couple of similar occasions here on<strong> Lanzarote<\/strong> in 2025.and both were remarkable performances by outfits of great potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One was by <strong>Lulu Mora, <\/strong>on the sea front in <strong>Playa Blanca<\/strong>. They sent mellifluous &nbsp;melodies smoothly down the unlit valleys into the xxxxx seas, as the poet <strong>Dylan Thomas<\/strong> might have described it. Its a soulful love ballad which actually belies its title. Perhaps bercause I am so obsessed with all things Americana I am not familiar with PJ Cooper, and because of that I have until now missed out on an amazing voice. Rough, and throaty and souldful, Cooper is accompanied by Gabrielle, known to my wife and I from holidays we spent here on <strong>Lanzarote more <\/strong>than a quarter of a century ago. A \u00b4pirate\u00b4 restuarant in <strong>Costa Teguise<\/strong>, called <strong>The Hook<\/strong>, that had model pirates swinging in the through the windows, played fantastic <strong>Now That\u00b4s What I Call Music<\/strong> compilations that accompanied our summer cocktaiuls as we sat and watched the night life go by. A track that captured our attention on those balmy nights was <strong>Rise by Gabrielle<\/strong> but since moving here to live on Lanzarote in 2015 we have lost traction with the British music scene. That is until I caught the end of <strong>The One Show<\/strong> on tv recently whilst looking for a football match. <strong>PJ Cooper and Gabrielle<\/strong> are a sound-match made in heaven. Although her voice has changed, lowered slightly, it retains a certain huskiness and clarity of diction and she remains an enigmatic but compelling characteer<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"120\" height=\"120\" src=\"https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/GABRIELLE.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25234\" style=\"width:465px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/GABRIELLE.jpg 120w, https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/GABRIELLE-80x80.jpg 80w, https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/GABRIELLE-36x36.jpg 36w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 120px) 100vw, 120px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Gabrielle<\/strong> is known for her distinctive use of an eye patch or sunglasses, which she wears due to ptosis, a drooping eyelid, but the protection pieces have become an integral part of her artistic character.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Louisa Gabriella Bobb&nbsp;(born 19 July 1969), known professionally as&nbsp;Gabrielle,&nbsp;is a British singer. Born in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/London_Borough_of_Hackney\">Hackney<\/a>, London, she released her debut single, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dreams_(Gabrielle_song)\">Dreams<\/a>&#8220;, in 1993, and it topped the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/UK_Singles_Chart\">UK Singles Chart<\/a>&nbsp;the same year. The video for the single is very moody and depicts the atmosphere of the song more so than having a linear storyline. The song samples part of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/BBC_News\"><strong>BBC News<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;theme. In 2004, it was used in the second episode of the<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/BBC\"><strong>BBC<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;drama serial&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Blackpool_(TV_serial)\"><strong><em>Blackpool<\/em><\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gabrielle released her first&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Greatest_hits\"><strong>greatest hits<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;collection on 12 November 2001, entitled&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dreams_Can_Come_True,_Greatest_Hits_Vol._1\"><strong><em>Dreams Can Come True, Greatest Hits Vol. 1<\/em><\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong> The album achieved success in the UK where it was certified as a four times&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Music_recording_sales_certification\">platinum<\/a>&nbsp;seller and became the fifth best selling album of 2001. The song reached number four in the UK and nine in Australia, making it her second biggest hit in the country and also the 37th highest selling single of 2001. It remained on the chart there for more than 20 weeks. In New Zealand, the song was the tenth most successful single of 2001.The song has sold 320,000 copies in the UK as stated by the Official UK Charts Company. The second and final single from the album was <strong>&#8220;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Don%27t_Need_the_Sun_to_Shine_(To_Make_Me_Smile)\"><strong>Don&#8217;t Need the Sun to Shine (To Make Me Smile)<\/strong><\/a><strong>&#8220;<\/strong>. of the several Gorillaz have released are <strong>Demon Days,<\/strong> <strong>Plastic Beach<\/strong> and <strong>Cracker Island<\/strong>, but already <strong>Orange County<\/strong> has ousted <strong>Dare<\/strong> as my favourite track by the band, of whatever line-up !<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As if to confirm the seemingly haphazard but nevertheless eclectic nature of their music, the arts critics seemed to have, themselves, taken a scatter-gun approach&nbsp; when seeking to categorise the band and their sounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Critics have generally described <strong>Gorillaz<\/strong>&#8216; music as art &nbsp;&nbsp;pop, &nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rock_alternativo\">&nbsp;alternative&nbsp;<\/a>rock,&nbsp;hip<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/M%C3%BAsica_hip_hop\">&nbsp;hop<\/a>,&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Electr%C3%B3nica_(g%C3%A9nero_musical)\">&nbsp;electronic<\/a>,&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pop\">&nbsp;pop<\/a>,&nbsp;&nbsp;trip<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Trip_hop\">&nbsp;hop<\/a>,&nbsp;&nbsp;dark<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pop\">&nbsp;pop<\/a>,&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rap_alternativo\">&nbsp;alternative&nbsp;<\/a>hip,&nbsp; rap<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rap_rock\">&nbsp;rock<\/a>,&nbsp;&nbsp;indie<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Indie_rock\">&nbsp;rock<\/a>,&nbsp;&nbsp;bedroom<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lo-fi_(m%C3%BAsica)\">&nbsp;pop<\/a>,&nbsp; dance<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dance_rock\">&nbsp;rock<\/a>&nbsp;,&nbsp;new<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_wave\">&nbsp;wave<\/a>&nbsp;, <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Funk\">&nbsp;funk,<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Worldbeat\">worldbeat<\/a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;The band&#8217;s aesthetic and overall approach have been described as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Posmodernidad\">postmodern<\/a>.&nbsp; According to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Allmusic\">Allmusic<\/a>&nbsp;, Gorillaz blend&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Britpop\">Britpop<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/M%C3%BAsica_hip_hop\">hip hop<\/a>&nbsp;,&nbsp;&nbsp;while&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Guardian\">The Guardian<\/a>&nbsp;describes the band as &#8220;a hybrid of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dub\">dub<\/a>&nbsp;,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/M%C3%BAsica_hip_hop\">hip hop<\/a>&nbsp;,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lo-fi_(m%C3%BAsica)\">lo-fi<\/a>&nbsp;,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Indie\">indie<\/a>&nbsp;, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/M%C3%BAsica_del_mundo\">world music<\/a>&nbsp;.&#8221;&nbsp; According to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/PopMatters\">PopMatters<\/a>&nbsp;, the band&#8217;s early work foreshadowed &#8220;the fusion of elements of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/M%C3%BAsica_hip_hop\">hip hop<\/a>&nbsp;,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rock\">rock<\/a>&nbsp;, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/M%C3%BAsica_electr%C3%B3nica\">electronica<\/a>&nbsp;into pop music&#8221; that would grow significantly in the following decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have always felt the best music cannot be categorised. I wrote in our last issue about a classical eleven piece string orchestra that played with the off-hand panache of football teams like <strong>Manchester City, Barcelona or Real Madrid<\/strong>, and with the spirited genius of nineteen sixties folk kings, <strong>The Incredible Stringband<\/strong> ! Being taken in and out of the sixteen or so categories listed in the paragraph doesn\u00b4t influence Gorillaz in any way. He, they, them or whoeve4r Gorrilaz respond brilliantly to Albarn\u00b4s genius and vision.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"330\" height=\"440\" src=\"https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/DAMON-ALBARN.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25243\" style=\"width:468px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/DAMON-ALBARN.jpg 330w, https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/DAMON-ALBARN-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 330px) 100vw, 330px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>In fact, &nbsp;2008,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Daily_Telegraph\"><strong>The Daily Telegraph<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;ranked Albarn 18th on its list of the 100 most powerful people in British culture.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 2016, Albarn received <strong>the&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Premio_Ivor_Novello\"><strong>Ivor Novello Award<\/strong><\/a><strong>&nbsp;for Lifetime Achievement<\/strong> from the <strong>British Academy of Composers, Authors and Composers.<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was appointed&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oficial_de_la_Orden_del_Imperio_Brit%C3%A1nico\"><strong>an Officer of the Order of the British Empire<\/strong><\/a><strong>&nbsp;(OBE) <\/strong>in the 2016 New Year Honours for services to music. In 2020, Albarn was granted&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ciudadan%C3%ADa_islandesa\"><strong>Icelandic citizenship<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whatever great skills Albarn may possess he has no qualms about collaborating with fellow musicians, no matter what genres the critics might like to plant them in. It is no surprise that <strong>Orange County<\/strong>, the current single release under the Gorillaz name is a co-write between Albarn, bizrapp and Kara Jackson. &nbsp;It will be no surprise, either, if the forthcoming album, <strong>The Mountain<\/strong>, will offer far-flung sounds, hidden rhythms, provocative and evocative lyrics and an awkwardstration of instruments that couldn\u00b4t possibly sound right together,\u2026until they do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, \u2026 Gorillaz are back with new single \u201cOrange County\u201d (ft. Bizarrap, Kara Jackson &amp; Anoushka Shankar), which comes with its companion track <strong>\u201cThe Hardest Thing\u201d<\/strong> <strong>(ft Tony Allen)<\/strong>, off their forthcoming album&nbsp;<em><strong>The Mountain<\/strong><\/em>, available February 2026 via Gorillaz\u2019 label KONG.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Written by Damon Albarn, \u201cThe Hardest Thing\u201d opens with the voice of long-time collaborator and friend, musician and drummer&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/northerntransmissions.com\/jazz-is-dead-release-single-from-posthumous-tony-allen-album\/\"><strong>Tony Allen<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;who passed away in 2020. The song is a beautiful exploration of grief and hope, both central themes on new album The Mountain, with the haunting lyric, <strong><em>\u201cYou know the hardest thing is to say goodbye to someone you love, That is the hardest thing\u201d <\/em><\/strong>carrying through into \u201cOrange County\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The uplifting track sees Albarn joined by singer-songwriter and poet Kara Jackson on vocals, as well as 14-time Grammy-nominated sitar player <strong>Anoushka Shankar<\/strong>.
