So says Jose Ramon Navas, a Canarian writer currently living on Lanzarote. That he still finds writing so enjoyable surely justifies what he describes as \u00b4a decision to turn his passion into a profession\u00b4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He knows how much research and creativity it takes to set a reader trembling in terror. Listening to him speak, one has the impression he is certainly prepared to do whatever it takes. He likes to think the fear he does create is not too unpleasant though.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He says it is \u00b4kind of like the level of fear I felt when I first began reading horror stories\u00b4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fact that we are all currently living in a time in which \u00b4both horrible and incredible things seem to happen every day\u00b4 means authors have to try even harder to compete with reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b4Fiction is my favourite genre. It is the most fulfilling and gives me room to develop my style, which tends to be very visual and emotional, although I\u00b4m a big fan of historical novels, too.\u00b4<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/photo-2-9.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2506\" width=\"800\" height=\"436\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/photo-2-9.jpg 960w, https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/photo-2-9-300x163.jpg 300w, https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/photo-2-9-768x418.jpg 768w, https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/photo-2-9-705x384.jpg 705w, https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/photo-2-9-600x327.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p> Readers will find an element of all these ingredients in his short stories anthology, La Habitacion Acolchada, which is in fact by the legends and myths of The Canary Islands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a8Yes\u00b4, says adopted Lanzarotean. \u00a8I take local legends and real life characters and events as a starting point and then use my creativity and imaginatioin to mould them into fictional stories, teasing the emotions of the reader to generate both empathy and fear.\u00b4<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is ready and excited to be making the leap now on to the small screen with the first two instalments of his collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00cf\u00b4m cautious to say it loud,\u00b4 he smiles, \u00b4but the truth is, I\u00b4m really happy. A lot of work has gone into these stories and this a real way of&nbsp; reaching out to a new audience. They may not be yet familiar with my work, or a perhaps not particularly avid readers at all, but through tv they can stilkl experience my way of story-telling.\u00b4<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project of placing his work on to the tv screen is on-going and broadening all the time. Arena Estudio first acquired the rights to develop his work in this way, but already two more production companies, one irush and the other Czech, have also come on board, so the production has taken on a European dimension. A well known streaming platform will take care of the broadcasting and marketing. Jose is very proud of this infrastructure and says the programmes should&nbsp; hit the screens by the beginning of 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is plainly delighted by this direction of events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a8Nevertheless\u00b4, he says, \u00b4I don\u00b4t put pen to paper with either the big screen or small screen in mind, and I certainly have no intention of taking The Padded Room out of the setting of The Canary Islands.\u00b4<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is, though, a clear direction in the development of his writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b4\u00cf touched on the Vampire worlds in my Lanmashtu saga, and now I\u00b4m writing a horror novel,\u00b4he told a journalist from the excellent Viva Lanzarote magazine, a free bi-monthly publication that prints most of its articles in both Spanish and English., here on Lanzarote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a8Horror fiction holds a real fascination for me\u00b4, he concluded, and I may write about, or base this fiction on, other legends in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Navas currently integrates his writing work with teaching, \u00b4which is also something I really enjoy and gives me a similar satisfaction to my writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.viva-lanzarote.com\">www.viva-lanzarote.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Words from the writer, Jose Ramon Navas on WRITING OUR TIMES by Norman Warwick \u00b4It is hard for writers to fiction writers to compete with reality\u00b4.
