The majority of the set was business as usual for Ezra Koenig and the boys, as they made stops at every major moment in their catalog, from \u201cDiplomat\u2019s Son\u201d to \u201cSunflower,\u201d to \u201cCapricorn.\u201d It was during the encore, however, where things became engulfed in chaos: Vampire Weekend performed 10 cover songs in a row, including the\u00a0<em>Seinfeld<\/em>\u00a0theme, \u201cMr. Brightside,\u201d \u201cWuthering Heights,\u201d \u201cSanteria\u201d and, most importantly, \u201cThe Boys Are Back in Town,\u201d before concluding with a one-two punch of \u201cWorship You\u201d and \u201cYa Hey.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/cover-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23737\" width=\"440\" height=\"352\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/cover-3.jpg 676w, https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/cover-3-300x240.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 440px) 100vw, 440px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>(left)<\/strong><\/em> Vampire Weekend on stage at Madison Square Gardens<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this year, Vampire Weekend released&nbsp;<em>Only God Was Above Us<\/em>, their first album since 2019\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Father of the Bride<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In her review of the album,&nbsp;<em>Paste<\/em>&nbsp;contributor Ellen Johnson&nbsp;said&nbsp;that <em>\u201cthe album is as good as anything the New York City-formed rockers have ever made (which is to say,&nbsp;very good), and it features a little DNA from everything they\u2019ve ever put out: a sibling to their self-titled debut, a cousin to&nbsp;Contra&nbsp;and the rebellious nephew of 2013\u2019s&nbsp;Modern Vampires of the City. It even shares some similarities with their most recent offspring,&nbsp;Father of the Bride. But for each of that last album\u2019s sunbeams,&nbsp;Only God Was Above Us&nbsp;has a sky of lightning bolts. It\u2019s at times darker and weirder, but it\u2019s not depressing.
