Halloween seems to have elongated over the last few years, and has come a long way from knocking on a neighbour\u00b4s door and offering a trick or treat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For instance, I wonder if it was a coincidence that Vampire Weekend (a group I really like) \u00a0occupied the great Madison Square Garden on their\u00a0Only God Was Above Us<\/em>\u00a0tour on the weekend before halloween.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and the Billy Joel cover band Turnstiles (righ<\/em><\/strong>t), they play more than just \u201980s Joel), Paste said in their review that the show went deep into the night, as Vampire Weekend turned on the jets and cruised through a 37- song set-list. The majority of the set was business as usual for Ezra Koenig and the boys, as they made stops at every major moment in their catalog, from \u201cDiplomat\u2019s Son\u201d to \u201cSunflower,\u201d to \u201cCapricorn.\u201d It was during the encore, however, where things became engulfed in chaos: Vampire Weekend performed 10 cover songs in a row, including the\u00a0Seinfeld<\/em>\u00a0theme, \u201cMr. Brightside,\u201d \u201cWuthering Heights,\u201d \u201cSanteria\u201d and, most importantly, \u201cThe Boys Are Back in Town,\u201d before concluding with a one-two punch of \u201cWorship You\u201d and \u201cYa Hey.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this year, Vampire Weekend released Only God Was Above Us<\/em>, their first album since 2019\u2019s Father of the Bride<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her review of the album, Paste<\/em> contributor Ellen Johnson said that \u201cthe album is as good as anything the New York City-formed rockers have ever made (which is to say, very good), and it features a little DNA from everything they\u2019ve ever put out: a sibling to their self-titled debut, a cousin to Contra and the rebellious nephew of 2013\u2019s Modern Vampires of the City. It even shares some similarities with their most recent offspring, Father of the Bride. But for each of that last album\u2019s sunbeams, Only God Was Above Us has a sky of lightning bolts. It\u2019s at times darker and weirder, but it\u2019s not depressing. It\u2019s like getting older: Strange and sometimes sad discoveries appear around every corner, often exposing more questions than answers, but with them comes time-earned satisfaction.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
