To complement our piece yesterday in which Jenny Bray described how last year she wrote, performed both here and in the USA, released a single and recorded an album recently issued only a few weeks ago online, and has undertaken media work such as that Steve Bewick interview we featured we suggest another book you might be interested in. I doubt that such a positive title could have been employed for the book were it not for the hard work of independent artists such as Jenny, and the support of UK listing agencies and Jazz media. That she constantly delivers work deserving of wider recognition, let\u00b4s hope Jenny\u00b4s name might feature in a re-print of the book in a few years time<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This book offers the first comprehensive overview of jazz in the 21st Century, with nearly 60 conversational profiles of major jazz artists, from living masters such as Wayne Shorter to rising stars such as Esperanza Spalding.\u00a0The artists discuss their lives, their music, and the state of the art form.\u00a0In his 6000 word introduction, author Rick Mitchell concludes that despite economic struggles, jazz is continuing to thrive creatively 100 years after its birth.\u00a0In addition to black and white photographs of each artist, the book includes approximately two dozen color photographs of the artists in performance at the DaCamera Jazz Series in Houston.\u00a0The book is intended for musicians and fans, and should be of special interest to jazz studies programmes at high schools, colleges and universities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
