{"id":16329,"date":"2023-08-31T07:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-08-31T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aata.dev\/?p=16329"},"modified":"2023-08-25T18:53:58","modified_gmt":"2023-08-25T17:53:58","slug":"somewhere-down-that-crazy-river","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aata.dev\/index.php\/2023\/08\/31\/somewhere-down-that-crazy-river\/","title":{"rendered":"SOMEWHERE DOWN THAT CRAZY RIVER"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>SOMEWHERE DOWN THAT CRAZY RIVER<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong> Norman Warwick<\/strong> searches for Robbie Robertson<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>M<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/martin-scorsese\">artin Scorsese<\/a>&nbsp;has led the tributes for musician Robbie Robertson following his death aged 80.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Lisa McLoughlin, writing in the Evening Standard on August 10<sup>th<\/sup>, The Canadian music icon was The Band\u2019s lead guitarist and songwriter behind such classics as The Weight, Up On Cripple Creek and The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was known for his collaboration with the group, which included Levon Helm, Rick Danko, Richard Manuel and Garth Hudson, along with touring with Bob Dylan and lending his musical talents to Scorsese\u2019s films.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/1-8.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16330\" width=\"435\" height=\"241\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/1-8.jpg 302w, https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/1-8-300x167.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 435px) 100vw, 435px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Robertson <strong><em>(left)<\/em><\/strong> died surrounded by family in Los Angeles \u201cafter a long illness\u201d, his publicist Ray Costa confirmed to media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the wake of his passing, Scorsese reacted to his long-time collaborator\u2019s death, who recently completed his 12th film music project with him, the forthcoming Killers of the Flower Moon starring Leonardo DiCaprio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The filmmaker shared in a statement: \u201cRobbie Robertson was one of my closest friends, a constant in my life and my work. I could always go to him as a confidante. A collaborator. An advisor. I tried to be the same for him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLong before we ever met, his music played a central role in my life \u2013 me and millions and millions of other people all over this world. The Band\u2019s music, and Robbie\u2019s own later solo music, seemed to come from the deepest place at the heart of this continent, its traditions and tragedies and joys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt goes without saying that he was a giant, that his effect on the art form was profound and lasting. There\u2019s never enough time with anyone you love. And I loved Robbie\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile on X, formerly known as Twitter,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/neil-diamond\">Neil Diamond<\/a>&nbsp;paid tribute to Robertson who produced his album Beautiful Noise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The American singer wrote: \u201cThe music world lost a great one with the passing of Robbie Robertson. Keep making that Beautiful Noise in the sky, Robbie. I\u2019ll miss you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Former US president&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/bill-clinton\">Bill Clinton<\/a>&nbsp;also paid tribute to Robertson via X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRobbie Robertson was a brilliant songwriter, guitarist, and composer whose gifts changed music forever,\u201d Mr Clinton said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m grateful for all the good memories he gave me \u2013 going back to his time in the Hawks when I was a teenager \u2013 and for his kindness through the years. I\u2019ll miss him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>English musician&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/ronnie-wood\">Ronnie Wood<\/a>&nbsp;shared images from the rock documentary The Last Waltz, which featured him and was about a concert billed as The Band\u2019s \u201cfarewell\u201d gig.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He wrote: \u201cSuch sad news about Robbie Robertson \u2013 he was a lovely man, a great friend and will be dearly missed xx R.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Released in 1978, Eric Clapton, Diamond, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison and Sir Ringo Starr also were among the musicians to appear in the film directed by Scorsese.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Musician and 24 actor&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/kiefer-sutherland\">Kiefer Sutherland<\/a>, a Canadian, wrote: \u201cThe loss of Robbie Robertson is heartbreaking. Canada has lost an icon, and music has lost a poet and a scholar.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Robertson also contributed to soundtracks for Scorsese films such as The Colour Of Money, The King Of Comedy, The Departed and The Irishman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Canadian musician&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/bryan-adams\">Bryan Adams<\/a>&nbsp;wrote: \u201cRIP Robbie Robertson. Thanks for the amazing music and the great hangs, especially photographing you in LA not so long ago.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Echoing the lyrics of The Band\u2019s song The Weight, Adams added: \u201cWe\u2019ll keep Anna Lee company for you\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While long-time collaborator Martin Scorsese said: \u201cRobbie Robertson was one of my closest friends, a constant in my life and my work.
