Places like Bridgewater Hall and The Royal Northern College Of Music, as well as The Arena and The Opera House. Add to that smaller but still atmospheric places like Band On The Wall and Phredds and you have a city that delivers an almost continual backdrop of music from many genres. Festival in the city absolutely reflects all that writ large, with a Manchester Folk Festival a Manchester Jazz Festival, a Blues Festival and The Manchester International Festival all still to be held in 2023, with a Blues Festival taking place, too, on the fringe of the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">19th-28<sup>th<\/sup> May 2023 <strong>will see Manchester Jazz Festival take place at venues and sites across Manchester, including weekday gigs at\u00a0St Ann\u2019s Church, nightly gigs at\u00a0Matt &amp; Phreds, events at\u00a0Forsyth Music Shop\u00a0and at\u00a0The Yard\u00a0with partners\u00a0NQ Jazz, and close with an extended weekend-long party at\u00a0Band on the Wall. Parklife delivers a massive party to Manchester. Teaming up with some of the top clubbing brands globally, each stage has its own unique flavour. There will be sixteen stages of music fronted by some of the biggest bands in the world including,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/scrillex.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14066\" width=\"185\" height=\"113\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Sonny John Moore (born January 15, 1988),[4] known professionally as Skrillex <strong><em>(left)<\/em><\/strong>, is an American DJ and record producer. Growing up in Northeast Los Angeles and Northern California, he joined the post-hardcore band From First to Last as the lead singer in 2004, and recorded two studio albums with the band (Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has a Bodycount [2004] and Heroine [2006]) before leaving to pursue a solo career in 2007.[5][6] He began his first tour as a solo artist in late 2007. Rudimental were named by the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/BBC\">BBC<\/a>&nbsp;as the festival band of the summer. The original line-up also featured dancer and singer Keith Flint and dancer and occasional live keyboard player Leeroy Thornhill, dancer Sharky, and MC and vocalist Maxim. They were pioneers of the breakbeat-influenced genre big beat, and achieved mainstream popularity in the 1990s. Howlett&#8217;s rock-inspired drum rhythms infused with electronic rave music beats\/breaks were combined with Maxim&#8217;s vocals, Thornhill&#8217;s shuffle dancing style, and Flint&#8217;s later modern punk appearance. The Prodigy describe their style as electronic punk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/groove-armada.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14069\" width=\"310\" height=\"206\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Groove Armada<\/strong> are an English electronic music duo, composed of Andy Cato and Tom Findlay. They achieved chart success with their singles &#8220;At the River&#8221;, &#8220;I See You Baby&#8221; and &#8220;Superstylin'&#8221;. The Festival is designed so that you can watch the first band at the first venue&nbsp; and have half an hour to walk to the next venue, buy a drink, find a seat, sit and watch the gig and then move on to the site and so on. It\u2019s a kind of walking, musical tour of Diggle, which is a lovely part of the world. You don\u00b4t have to choose between one band or another. Instead, you can watch all ten or eleven on the programme, and all for free though a voluntary donation of around a pound a head wouldn\u00b4t be turned down. The Festival is an indoor event so you don\u00b4t have to worry too much about the weather, but rest assured some acts might be staged outside instead in the unlikely event of good weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Diggle Blues Festival runs an ADOPT-A-GIG &nbsp;scheme (about which you can read more on their facebook site. They are pleased to say they\u00b4ve just had another sponsor for this scheme. The family of a regular attendee at Diggle Blues Festival have gifted him an Adopt-a-Gig sponsorship for his birthday. They have chosen to adopt the Backwater Blues Band gig at the Diggle Band Club on Saturday. As well as being a fan of our festival, the guy with the birthday also happens to be a huge fan of Backwater Blues Band. Brilliant! Thanks for supporting our festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/manchester-internation-festival.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14071\" width=\"436\" height=\"290\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Thursday 29 June to Sunday 16 July 2023 <\/strong>are dates to red-star in your diaries as it is then that<strong> Manchester International Biennial Festival<\/strong> returns this summer from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;Manchester International Festival&nbsp;is a biennial international&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Arts_festival\">arts festival<\/a>, with a specific focus on original new work, held in the English city of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Manchester\">Manchester<\/a>&nbsp;and run by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Factory_International\">Factory International<\/a>. The festival is a biennial event, first taking place in June\u2013July 2007, and subsequently recurring in the summers of 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2021. MIF23 will take place in summer 2023. The organisation is based in Blackfriars House, adjacent to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Blackfriars_Bridge,_Manchester\">Blackfriars Bridge<\/a>&nbsp;but is due to move to a new \u00a3110 million new home,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Factory_International\">Factory International<\/a>, in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Festival was promoted and initiated with three pre-festival commissions. The first of these took place in November 2005, when&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gorillaz\">Gorillaz<\/a>&nbsp;performed live at the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Manchester_Opera_House\">Manchester Opera House<\/a>. Recordings of these performances were later released as the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Demon_Days_Live\"><em>Demon Days Live<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;DVD. The second was&nbsp;<em>The Schools Festival Song<\/em>, a new piece by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ennio_Morricone\">Ennio Morricone<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nicholas_Royle\">Nicholas Royle<\/a>&nbsp;sung by an 8,000-strong schools&#8217; choir, organised by Young Voices, which took place on 4 December 2006.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The third was an art installation, in conjunction with the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Imperial_War_Museum\">Imperial War Museum<\/a>, by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Turner_Prize\">Turner Prize<\/a>-winning artist&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Steve_McQueen_(director)\">Steve McQueen<\/a>, as a response to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Iraq_War\">2003 Iraq war<\/a>&nbsp;and as a tribute to British service personnel killed in that conflict. It was exhibited in the Great Hall of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Manchester_Central_Library\">Manchester Central Library<\/a>&nbsp;from 28 February to 15 July 2007.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first edition of the Festival ran from 28 June \u2013 15 July 2007. The Festival&#8217;s showpiece production was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Monkey:_Journey_To_The_West\"><em>Monkey: Journey To The West<\/em><\/a>, a re-working of the ancient&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Culture_of_China\">Chinese<\/a>&nbsp;legend&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Journey_to_the_West\"><em>Journey to the West<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Damon_Albarn\">Damon Albarn<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jamie_Hewlett\">Jamie Hewlett<\/a>, collaborating on their first major project since Gorillaz. Albarn wrote the score while Hewlett designed the set and costumes.<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Manchester_International_Festival#cite_note-3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a>&nbsp;Adapted and directed by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chen_Shi-Zheng\">Chen Shi-Zheng<\/a>, whose credits range from classical&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chinese_opera\">Chinese opera<\/a>&nbsp;to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Meryl_Streep\">Meryl Streep<\/a>&nbsp;movie&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dark_Matter_(film)\"><em>Dark Matter<\/em><\/a>, the show also featured 45 Chinese&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Circus\">circus<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Acrobatics\">acrobats<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shaolin_Temple\">Shaolin<\/a>&nbsp;monks and Chinese vocalists. The production was designed and created by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Th%C3%A9%C3%A2tre_du_Ch%C3%A2telet\">Th\u00e9\u00e2tre du Ch\u00e2telet<\/a>&nbsp;in co-operation with the Manchester International Festival and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Berlin_State_Opera\">Berlin State Opera<\/a>, and performed at the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Palace_Theatre,_Manchester\">Palace Theatre<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As well as&nbsp;<em>Monkey<\/em>, the Festival showcased two other events. The first was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Il_Tempo_del_Postino&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\"><em>Il Tempo del Postino<\/em><\/a>, a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Visual_arts\">visual arts<\/a>&nbsp;show curated by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hans_Ulrich_Obrist\">Hans Ulrich Obrist<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Philippe_Parreno\">Philippe Parreno<\/a>&nbsp;and produced in conjunction with the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre du Ch\u00e2telet, Paris, performed at the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Manchester_Opera_House\">Manchester Opera House<\/a>. All of the venues are within a short walk of each other, making it easy to move between concerts, catch up with friends, and just hang around taking in the atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New for 2023 will be exciting international partnerships bringing in new music from around the world.
