He continued his training at the School of Arts and Crafts of Murcia and from 1969 he settled in Madrid, enrolling in the Círculo de Bellas Artes and the Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando. He befriended the leading painters, writers and poets of the day. For a year he lived as an intern in Germany, where he came into direct contact with abstract expressionism, whose teachings, together with those of Spanish expressionists such as Luis García-Ochoa Ibáñez and Francisco Mateos, have had such an impact on his work. He has received numerous painting awards and made a significant number of exhibitions, as well as various monumental murals.

His works (see example right) are based on a personal and free approach and are characterized by being made with an energetic and resounding stroke and by using a palette of violent colors and techniques of great variety (collage, oil, drawing, mixed media).

He has made the cover of the book Historia del eremita, by his countryman Miguel Espinosa

Yolanda Mediavilla

The work of Yolanda Mediavilla (left) is created from the soul, from her consciousness on earth, from her unconditional love for the offerings she gives us, Therefore, the use of natural materials for its realization, which nourish her works, go through the fruits of the sea such as “mother-of-pearl” and “pearls”, to the treasures of the earth in their different forms such as semiprecious minerals (“lapis lazuli”, “quartz (green, white, transparent)”, “blue of the Nile”, “violet of Vesuvius”, “jade”, “jasper”, “terracotta”, “volcanic lava”, “gypsum”… and its different supports (fabrics, canvases, paper, glass, wood …) thus creating, with this combination of materials, a vibrational work that interacts with the viewer.

The primacy of white and the natural tones of minerals illuminate the creations, thus inviting from purity and acceptance to a shared journey without fear. It is a peaceful return to our loving essence, a gesture to change the course of this wounded Age. The works are a continuity of the whole, without beginning or end, so their strokes are not defined in a framework of completion and framing… leaving room for inner connection with all existing worlds and universes. The trace comes from within the soul, naked, sweet, which like an overture introduces us into the circular life, where the flow of existence is a slow, wise, humble, courageous and subtle transmutation. The works are an invitation to self-knowledge, to a deep personal journey, to the embrace of the shadow and to reconciliation with oblivion. A sensible acceptance for a real exit from the chrysalis.

Lanzarote Art Gallery is an international art gallery representing more than 35 established and emerging contemporary artists.
