This concert series is part of a five-year collaboration between the orchestra and Chetham\u2019s School of Music to perform and record all of Mozart\u2019s piano concertos. Their concert celebrates Mozart at his very best, delving into some of his later operas (Cosi Fan Tutte and The Magic Flute) as well as some of his most epic piano concertos. Each year 180 music industry delegates join Manchester audiences to see the most exciting artists based in England. This year\u2019s shows take place at HOME, Impossible Theatre, O2 Ritz Manchester, The Blues Kitchen and International Anthony Burgess Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"248\" height=\"165\" src=\"https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/reeg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11737\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>HOME\u2019s Theatre 2 welcomes two new projects, one using folk and storytelling to revisit stories of social change and one centred around global cultural collaboration. Reg Meuross\u2019 Stolen from God is a song cycle unfolding the history of England\u2019s involvement in the Transatlantic slave trade and new commission, Touchstone, brings together traditional English and Kashmiri songs and tunes. Reg has featured on these pages previously and I still hold fond memories of interviewing him more than thirty years ago. Even then he proved to be not only a studious and serious, but also humorous musician.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The festival opens on Thursday 13 October with The Magpie Arc and Lady Maisery: in this show The Magpie Arc launch their highly anticipated first full-length album. Jim Ghedi is joined by Joshua Burnell in HOME. In The Blues Kitchen, Grace Petrie\u2019s show sees two fantastic support artists in Lucy Grubb and GUISE while Impossible Theatre welcomes Rachael Dadd launching her new album, Kaleidoscope. In International Anthony Burgess Foundation we welcome English songsmith, Douglas Dare and The Jackie Oates Trio (\u201cone of England\u2019s finest and most expressive traditional folk singers\u201d\u2013 Tradfolk). Thursday\u2019s Festival Club will close day one with rising North-West soul-folk artist John Dhali, Northumbrian fiddler Frankie Archer and country-rock outfit Treetop Flyers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Friday sees Thea Gilmore headline in HOME now joined by Flo Perlin and Clare Sands. Stolen From God in HOME Theatre 2 is a narrated song-cycle by Reg Meuross about the SW of England\u2019s involvement in the Transatlantic Slave Trade with Jali Fily Cissokho,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne and Jaz Gayle. Later in Theatre 2, Moxie brings their own sound of an Irish tradition inspired by global and contemporary cultures. Impossible Theatre hosts Hollie Rogers and fusion upbeat danceable sounds from Me and My Friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In International Anthony Burgess Foundation, Lucy Farrell (\u201cSplendidly atmospheric\u201d &#8211; fRoots) and Fiona Bevan (\u201cStartling Odysseys\u201d &#8211; The Guardian) headline their own intimate shows. Friday closes in the vibrant Festival Club with sets from Jacob &amp; Drinkwater, Will Page (Noble Jacks) and The Carrivick Sisters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Saturday afternoon includes an Irish celebration in HOME as Daoir\u00ed Farrell Trio is joined by the \u201cmesmeric\u201d Dani Larkin. David Gibb hosts his Family Jukebox in International Anthony BurgessFoundation and in HOME\u2019s Theatre 2 The Alliance of Kashmiri Arts premieres Touchstone \u2013 a commissioned project seeing Lala Qadeer collaborating with Dan Walsh and Alistair Anderson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/holy-Moly.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11727\" width=\"322\" height=\"209\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Saturday evening\u2019s 02 Ritz show with Will Varley has escalated to what is guaranteed to be a legendary festival evening with the addition of innovative and fiery folk-rockers Holy Moly &amp; The Crackers, <strong><em>(right)<\/em><\/strong> . In HOME\u2019s Theatre 1, \u201cface of the 2021 Sea shanty revival\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Longest Johns are joined by Ceitidh Mac (\u201ctransformative, progressive and mellow\u201d) and Angeline Morrison. In Theatre 2 The Drystones (\u201cbig bad beats for badass barn dancing\u201d) and string accompanied Hannah Moule and the Moulettes bring their contemporary approaches to folk and traditional music. Saturday evening in International Anthony Burgess Foundation welcomes new folk project Pedler \/\/ Russell and clarinet and piano ambient exploration by Group Listening. The final Festival Club night on Saturday will feature The Wilderness Yet, SautiKano, and The Ciderhouse Rebellion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Established in 2017 as a development of Homegrown Festival in Bury, Manchester Folk Festival takes place over 4 days in venues around the festival hub venue, Home Manchester. The festival attracts over 2,500 audiences annually attending concerts in venues including Home, 02 Ritz, Gorilla, Yes, Comedy Store and Bridgewater Hall. Previous artists have included Billy Bragg, Afro Celt Sound System, Tom Robinson Band, Will Varley, Eliza Carthy, John Smith, Tunng, The Unthanks, Kate Rusby and This is the Kit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> English Folk Expo (EFEx) is a charity and an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation which supports the English folk, roots and acoustic music sector through a variety of projects and initiatives including the annual Manchester Folk Festival and its parallel industry showcase attracting music buyers and programmers from across the world and generating over \u00a32m spend on artist live bookings from each event (source: the hub). It also runs an annual artist mentoring programme, hosts an online platform of resources for fans, artists and industry, collaborates with export organisations across the world on initiatives including Global Music Match and produces The Official Folk Albums Chart with The Official Charts Company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its wonderful that there is folk \u00b4n Mozart in Manchester but readers in the South of the UK, but as most readers of Sidetracks And Detours will know any regular readers of Sidetracks And Deturs might also loudly proclaim the success of Jazz In Reading (JIR).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/julie.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11729\" width=\"426\" height=\"530\" srcset=\"https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/julie.jpg 462w, https:\/\/aata.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/julie-241x300.jpg 241w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 426px) 100vw, 426px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The event is a meeting of Pangbourne Jazz Club to enjoy a concert on October 2<sup>nd<\/sup> by jazz vocalist, Julie Maguire<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td>Julie Maguire,<strong> (left and in our cover photo)&nbsp;<\/strong>is a singer and actress based in the London area. Her singing work is&nbsp;incredibly varied &#8211; from musical theatre through to jazz, pop and rock. She also&nbsp;writes music, and collaborated on the score to a rock musical which was&nbsp;performed at the 2009 Edinburgh Fringe.<br><br>\u200bMost recently Julie has been working with Mike Moran across a number of his&nbsp;Film, TV and album projects providing her vocals to his compositions. This&nbsp;collaboration includes Julie and Mike producing an American Songbook Live&nbsp;show, some of which Julie will bring to Pangbourne.<br>\u200bJulie has performed in most of the theatres around the UK and in many large&nbsp;festivals around the country and abroad. She has also worked in more intimate&nbsp;settings with smaller groups and duo work. She was the female vocalist in&nbsp;Brendan Cole&#8217;s &#8220;Live and Unjudged&#8221; tour.<br><br>Julie is certainly a regular favourite with many UK show bands and in great&nbsp;demand &#8211; comfortable with a full 18-piece big band as well as the slightly&nbsp;smaller combos.<br>As an actress, Julie toured the UK with &#8220;End of the Rainbow&#8221; understudying&nbsp;the role of Judy Garland. She has also performed the role of narrator in the Bill&nbsp;Kenwright production of &#8220;Joseph and his Technicolor Dreamcoat&#8221;<br>\u200bHugely talented, Julie is partner with David Young in the international rock&nbsp;band Space Elevator.
